Peiwen Chen, piano soloist. Music of Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, Ludwig van Beethoven, George Whitefield Chadwick

Pianist Peiwen Chen has performed throughout Europe, Asia, and North America as a renowned soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative artist. A graduate of the National Academy of Art (Taiwan) and Mannes College of Music, she made her Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall in 1995 as a winner of the New York Concert Artists Competition.

Ms. Chen made her Paris debut in 2001 playing Liszt’s Concerto Pathetique for two pianos in Salle Olivier Messiaen, Maison de Radio France. She is currently a member of piano faculties of Mannes College of Music and Montclair State University Cali School of Music and recently served on the jury for the Concours International de Piano in Lille, France. She has also taught at the International Vocal Arts Institute, the VOICExperience program, the CoOPERAtive program at Rider University, and the Savannah Voice Festival.

Ms. Chen performs frequently with her husband, pianist Alexander Paley. They recently recorded the complete symphonies of Saint-Saëns arranged for piano four-hands; other career highlights include their performance of the complete Mozart works for piano duet during the 2024-25 season as well as their performances of the Czerny Piano Concerto for one piano four hands, the complete Rachmaninoff music for two pianos, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade in the composer’s version for piano four-hands, and the Mozart and Mendelssohn Concertos for Two Pianos. The duo performs annually in Vilnius, Lithuania and at the Alexander Paley Music Festivals in Mouline d’Ande, France and Richmond, Virginia.

As a collaborative artist, Ms. Chen has worked with such artists as Licia Albanese, Elly Ameling, Regina Resnik, Jon Vickers, Evelyn Lear, Diane Soviero, Deborah Voigt, Ruth Falcon, Mignon Dunn, Sherrill Milnes, and Olga Peretyako, among others. She served as a pianist for the Metropolitan Opera Guild for many seasons and was the official pianist for the Classical Singers Magazine Competition in Shanghai in 2017. She is currently working on a cycle of the complete Beethoven sonatas for violin and piano in collaboration with Deimena Petkauskaite for performance throughout Lithuania.
